Dane county has always been Ryan's home base. He was raised in Madison, which may explain his deep connection to the community that shaped his life. He received his teaching license from UW-Whitewater in history and social studies education and taught middle and high school in Jacksonville and Madison. The concept of giving back to his community has always been paramount in Ryan's career ambitions.

Even with an unexpected career change, from teaching to leading the sales team for a local ice cream manufacturer, he kept community at the core of his work. For over five years, Ryan worked to diligently onboard, train, and advise privately owned businesses to achieve their ambitions. He worked directly with owners to provide a service within their own communities, while also ensuring their financial future was secure.
